CALGARY – Officials say they have searched a home of interest as they investigate a shocking case of animal cruelty that has sparked outrage across the city.

An emaciated Siberian Husky was found dead in an alley in the 200 block of 99 Ave S.E. on January 9th. The dog’s muzzle was taped shut with medical tape.

A week later, while Global News crews were investigating, they came across another disturbing discovery: a dead cat with its mouth muzzled, about 10 meters from where the husky was found.

The Calgary Humane Society immediately launched an investigation.

They say they executed a search warrant on Friday at a home of interest in the community of Willow Park, with the help of Calgary police.

However, items seized in the course of the search will require forensic analysis, a process that will take some time.

“As an enforcement agency, Calgary Humane Society has to balance the need for credible, helpful information with maintaining the integrity of the investigation,” says Brad Nichols, Manager, Cruelty Investigations.

Officials say they won’t be releasing any specifics on what was seized, until (and if) charges are laid.

The Humane Society says a canvass of the neighbourhood led them to the home in question, and a person in the home is considered a person of interest.

Anyone who recognizes the animals or has any information about the owner is asked to call the Calgary Humane Society Protection and Investigations department at 403-205-4455.

So far, donations for a reward have reached over $70-thousand dollars.
