TORONTO – A pileup of at least 20 cars closed the east and westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Napanee Wednesday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police say weather was a contributing factor in the crash which injured at least seven people. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Constable Jackie Perry of the Napanee OPP said the crash scene stretches for approximately three kilometres with a number of stopped vehicles. Not all vehicles were involved in the crash.
Fire services and ambulance crews are currently at the scene.
Police say there was one person in serious condition while others sustained minor or moderate injuries.
A bus has been sent out to pick up and shelter stranded motorists.
Police say drivers who are on the highway in that area should slow down and follow signs for the detour route.
