On average, 2013 oil production was 487,400 barrels per day, surpassing the record set in 2012.

A total of 3,371 wells were drilled in 2013, the province’s third best year. Almost two-thirds of all drilling was done in the Lloydminster, Kindersley and Kerrobert areas.

“The importance of the oil industry cannot be understated, as a top employer and exporter it contributes positively to communities throughout our province,” said Tim McMillian, Saskatchewan’s energy and resources minister.

Last November, Saskatchewan was ranked first in Canada for upstream petroleum development, according to a survey done by The Fraser Institute.
