MONTREAL – Lachine’s Saul Bellow Library is about to get a $10.9-million renovation and expansion, officials announced Monday.
The city of Montreal and the Quebec Culture Department will each contribute $4.3 million to the project, while $2.3 million would come from Lachine borough.
The work is to be completed by the spring of 2013, but the library will continue to function at another, as yet undisclosed, location.
The expansion will add 1,194 square metres of floor space to the existing 1,427 square metres.
The design of the new building will be the subject of an architectural competition, with the winner chosen by a seven-member jury.
Artists are to be invited to submit projects for a competition for public art in the new building.
