Ok, so I’ve been putting off starting this blog for long enough. Where to begin???
2 reasons I’ve been putting it off… 1st I know very little about blogging, never read a blog, never been to a blog, and quite frankly think that blogs are dumb… but here I am writing a blog. And of course the 2nd and main reason for the delay is training camp. Everyone loves training camp, right? It’s a new lease on life, a clean sheet of paper, so much promise and so much to look forward to. Well, let me tell you something, the players hate it. Sure the first few days are fun, you get to see the guys and act like little boys, yeah you’re a little sleepy and your muscles ache but all the tomfoolery that you’ve saved up all off-season makes up for it. Then reality sets in, what we call “hump day,” usually day 3 or 4, which feels like day 8 or 10. The 6 hours sleep a night isn’t cutting it, you can fall asleep anywhere; during film study is a popular choice). When it comes to the field stuff, the hardest part of the game is recognizing what your opponent is doing, not always reacting to it. On hump day, the hardest part is getting your body to do what your eyes and your brain tells it to. The good news is they say that once you get past hump day things get better. Ill let u know tomorrow.
Did I mention that during camp everyday is groundhog’s day? Everyday is the same…literally. The last day I remember was Saturday and judging by the amount of hours we squeeze out of everyday I would guess today is august. So everyday since last Saturday may something, 2008 I have woken up at 5:55 chugged a cup of coffee while I mixed up some breakfast to go in a small fry pan. Load up with more coffee on my ride to mosaic. Then I: hot tub, get my glute (a.k.a ass) worked on for 5 min by the trainer, get ankles taped, get dressed into practice gear, get taped again, do some stability ball work for 5 min, throw on the pads and helmet and be ready and accounted for on the field for 7:45 ready to smash Scott Schultz, chunky Adams and john chick amongst other people for the next 5 hours….actually we get 15 minutes off and if you know coach Gibson you know he’s talking to coach miller about using those 15minutes for more one on ones. 12:45 we talk to media. Then I get my 32 year old ass stretched…wait, that didn’t sound right…. No, no, its right….cold tub for 15minutes in 5degree ice water, then shower and get outta there hopefully before 2. Now is the best time of day! Lunch at Luther and a quick 45minute nap at HOME. Then back at it at 5 where we have film study of the days practice. We watch every play we had in practice maybe 15 times on average and each of us are ‘critiqued’ on every play, on every drill and every step we took on the field…literally. We do this until 9:30PM than we go home and if we fall asleep as soon as we get home we get 8 hours sleep, but coach Gibby let us out 15minutes early tonight so I figured, instead of spending those extra 15minutes with my wife, id spent 30minutes writing this blog then pass out in this chair…..
There the first one is done, the pressure is off! …….. if you don’t know, now you know
