Aussies tour ‘Winterpeg’ to experience Canadian cold

There are plenty of reasons to visit Winnipeg, but cold wintry weather isn’t usually one of them.

But if you’re from Australia, snow and low temperatures are downright exotic.

So a group of tourists from down under is in town, to see if they can handle Winterpeg.

A cold day in Australia is about 12 degrees.

“We left our sunshine coast home at 28C and now we’re being greeted by -15 or -20 so it’s a little different,” Keith Guy.

“It’s colder than I thought it would be,” laughs Marilyn Guy.

Lorry Lesyk promises to give his Aussie visitors the ultimate winter experience, including clearing his roof.

Staying warm wasn’t a problem for the pair. Keith brought his Alpaca hat and Marilyn had tricks of her own.

“I’ve got cotton socks on, then I got possum socks on… Then I got leggings and I got my jeans,” says Marilyn.

“It’s so much time involved, if you want to go down to the shop for a paper, it takes you half an hour to get dressed,” Keith.

The extra clothes came in handy when the group tried making snow angels.
