One year after staging protests to save their school students at the First Nations University of Canada are thanking those that helped them.
It was one year ago that the federal and provincial government’s pulled funding from the school. Students protested the move, and after several changes were made to how the school is run, the funding was restored.
Thursday, students thanked those that helped them in their fight, in particular University of Regina President Dr. Vianne Timmons. Faculty member Del Anaquod and FNUC Board Chair Joely BigEagle were also recognized.
“These three really took a vital role in sustaining and helping the students,” said FNUC student Cadmus Delorme. “The students helping (sic) them at the same time in keeping this place as is.”
Enrolment at the University sits at around 600.
