At 11:24 a.m., police said officers were investigating reports of a missing baby around Marlee and Roselawn avenues, near Eglinton Avenue West and Allen Road, in North York.

The infant was found by police, and they were taken to hospital by Toronto paramedics, which described the infant’s injuries as critical and life-threatening. Police said in a post on X on Wednesday afternoon the baby died in hospital.

They did not reveal the infant’s gender, nor the circumstances around the death — only describing it as a “suspicious incident.”

Afterwards, police told Global News the baby was reported missing by a family member, and was found at a residential building where officers were called to. Police said the infant was four months old.

“While we recognize this is a tragic situation that raises many questions, no further details will be shared at this time,” police said in an email.

“We want to reassure the public that there is no safety risk. Further information will be provided via news release when it becomes available.”
