Starved Husky found dead in southeast Calgary alley

UPDATE: While investigating this story, a Global News crew came across a dead cat that also had its mouth tied shut.

CALGARY – The Calgary Humane Society is investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty and neglect after finding a dead dog in the community of Willow Park.

An emaciated Siberian Husky dog was discovered in an alley in the 200 block of 99 Ave S.E. on January 9, 2014.

Officials say the dog’s muzzle was taped shut with clear medical tape, possibly contributing to the dog’s physical condition and, ultimately, its death.

“This is a clear a case of intentional animal cruelty which would have caused this animal significant suffering,” says Brad Nichols, Manager, Cruelty Investigations at the Calgary Humane Society.

“We hope someone is able to identify the dog so that we can ensure accountability for this cruel act and prevent future such acts.”

Anyone who recognizes the dog or has any information about the owner is asked to call the Calgary Humane Society Protection and Investigations department at 403-205-4455.
