Update: Second person dies following collision near Wetaskiwin

Aftermath of a crash east of Wetaskiwin. Ron Asp for Global News

EDMONTON – The RCMP has confirmed a second person has died after a semi-truck trailer carrying cattle and a van collided east of Wetaskiwin.

The crash happened Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highway 13 and Range Road 235.

One witness describes the crash as “unbelievable.”

“Nothing was left of the truck that was hit,” Ron Asp told Global News. “I have seen a lot of accidents but not like this one… It looked like the autos in the Middle East when a bomb takes them out.”

Wetaskiwin RCMP is still investigating the collision. At this time, it appears poor road conditions were a major factor.
