HAMILTON, Ont. – Millions of dollars from the province has erased Hamilton’s funding gap for the Pan Am stadium.
MPPs Sophia Aggelonitis and Ted McMeekin announced Sunday that the province is handing over $22.5 million to the city to help cover the costs of renovating Ivor Wynne stadium.
The new funding eases fears that the city will lose the stadium and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who repeatedly threatened to move to another city if a new venue wasn’t built.
The province has already contributed roughly $35 million to Hamilton’s Pan Am stadium and will give the extra $22.5 million directly to the city.
The federal government is not contributing anything above the $35 million it has already pledged to the project.
Council will meet this morning to vote on final approval.
