Toronto to see a January thaw this weekend…but there is a down side

TORONTO – Finally, some patio weather.

Okay, maybe it won’t be quite that warm, but after enduring the much-hated polar vortex that brought a daytime high of just -17.3 C and a low of -24.2 C on Tuesday, a high of 5 C may feel like it.

The warmer temperatures are set to roll into southern Ontario on Friday. However, there is a downside.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of the risk of freezing rain as the warm air and rain arrives on Friday night.

On Friday morning, fog patches and areas of freezing drizzle may affect the morning drive.

After a gradual clearing due to southerly winds on Friday, the rain will once again move into southern Ontario and continue eastward. Rain amounts between 10 and 20 mm are expected, with rain ending Saturday afternoon.

But the warm temperatures will continue until Tuesday with an expected high of around 0 C.

Living in Toronto, you can pretty much bet you’ll see someone in shorts over the weekend.
