UPDATE: Serious crash on the Connector

UPDATE:  Two people escaped serious injury after their pick-up truck slammed into the back of a semi on the Connector.

The crash happened late Wednesday morning in the southbound lanes near Brenda Mines.

The pick-up sustained heavy damage after slamming into the semi’s flatbed trailer.

Police say the semi was moving at around 60 km/h at the time of the crash.

Despite the heavy damage, the male driver managed to get out on his own and wasn’t injured.

His female passenger had to be removed with the Jaws of Life but wasn’t seriously injured.

Both were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the semi wasn’t injured.

There was heavy fog in the area at the time of the crash.

No charges are pending.

Meantime,  the Coquihalla is closed to southbound vehiclesfrom Merritt to 3 km south of Exit 237 near Juliet Creek due to a vehicle incident.

Drive BC says an assessment is underway to determine how long the route could be closed.

The detour is on Hwy 8 through Fraser Canyon.

NEAR PEACHLAND — At least one person has been taken to hospital with undetermined injuries following a two vehicle crash involving a semi on the Connector.

The crash happened late Wednesday morning in the westbound lanes near Brenda Mines where a pick-up truck slammed into the back of the semi’s flatbed trailer.

The pick-up truck was heavily damaged.

It’s not clear if there were more people in the vehicle.

It’s also not clear if the semi was stationary when the crash occurred.

There was heavy fog in the area at the time of the crash.

The crash has reduced to the westbound traffic to a single lane.

Meantime,  the Coquihalla is closed to southbound vehiclesfrom Merritt to 3 km south of Exit 237 near Juliet Creek due to a vehicle incident.
