UPDATE: Police look for suspect after targeted shooting at a Burnaby restaurant

RCMP are investigating after a shooting at a busy restaurant in Burnaby.

A man  in his early 30’s was shot inside the Cactus Club restaurant on Kingsway opposite Metrotown Mall at around 12:45 p.m. this afternoon.

Investigators say the victim was sitting at the restaurant in the company of several other men at the time of the shooting.

He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local area hospital.

Police say the shooting appears to be targeted but it is not clear if it is gang related. The weapon has not been recovered.

No one else inside the restaurant was hurt.

“It is a very scary situation for everybody, for the police and for the general public – innocent bystanders and people walking by,” says Inspector Steve Wade with Burnaby RCMP. “We have no idea why this occurred at this time.”

Police are now looking for a male suspect, who is believed to have fled on foot. They are expected to release his description later today.
