KELOWNA — Despite a grim prognosis, Bruce Cook of Kelowna remains optimistic that he’ll walk again.

The 26-year-old freestyle motocross rider was seriously injured while attempting a double-forward flip at a show in Hamilton, Ontario.

The video shows Cook slamming into the landing ramp.

He was transported to hospital where he underwent three hours of surgery to repair his back.

Cook updated his condition on a Facebook page, saying he has lost sensation to his legs.

“On Saturday, January 4th I underwent three hours of surgery on my lower-mid back. The surgery on my spine was successful, however, my spinal cord is damaged and I still don’t have sensation or movement below my belly button. I am staying positive and hopeful that I’ll be back on my feet in the future.”
