Avalanche conditions isolate towns

The weather is causing some serious problems in parts of the province.

The towns of Revelstoke, Golden and the area in-between remain cut off from the rest of the province after dangerous avalanche conditions shut down Highway 1 to the east and west.

There is also word the Trans-Canada Highway east of Golden will be closed until Tuesday at midnight.

The highway was shut down Saturday between Craigallechie and Revelstoke; that portion has now been re-opened but could close again at any time.

The Trans-Canada remains closed from Revelstoke to Golden and from Golden to a point 17 km east of the town.

Revelstoke to Golden may stay closed until Sunday morning as crews work to remove unstable snow packs, which pose a high risk of producing avalanches.
