Adam Braidwood, a defensive lineman for the Edmonton Eskimos, has been charged with sexual assault.
The 26-year-old football player made a brief appearance in court Thursday for two new counts of sexual assault and one count of possessing a handgun with a defaced serial number, in addition to several other previous charges, said Alberta Justice spokesman David Dear.
The sexual assault charges stem from an incident on Dec. 2 in which Braidwood had previously been charged with a number of offences, including assault, threats to cause death or bodily harm, possession of a prohibited weapon, careless use of a firearm and two probation breaches.
Braidwood’s next appearance in court is Feb. 10.
The charges are unrelated to an incident in late November in which Braidwood and two other men where charged with cutting a man and locking him inside the trunk of a car.
