Harper protester says breaking into Vancouver event “wasn’t too tricky”

The woman who dressed as a waiter today to interrupt Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s speech says she achieved her “short-term” goals, but will keep protesting the government when it comes to climate change.

“I think we were able to achieve our short-term goal which was the point of the action and bring home that message to Harper,” said Shireen Soofi, who held up a sign with the words “The Conservatives Take Climate Change Seriously,” crossed out.

“But this is one small step in the work that has been going on for a long time by countless individuals.”

On Unfiltered with Jill Krop, she said the point of her action was to bring more attention to the government’s environmental policies.

“The point of the action today was to show our opposition to Harper’s policies on climate change and his expansion of the tar sands and the fossil fuel industry in Canada and how that is directly increasing the rate of climate change which is showing its effects and is directly affecting the most marginalized.”

She said that passing by the Prime Minister’s security detail was straightforward.

“It wasn’t too tricky, we were just wearing black clothes, and we saw this opportunity to speak for people who haven’t had an opportunity to be in that setting.”
