EDMONTON – Edmonton Oilers forward Ales Hemsky will be heading to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia after being named to the Czech Republic hockey team.
This will be Hemsky’s second time competing in the Olympics. He played at the 2006 games in Turin, Italy, where the team won bronze.
Hemsky has been an Oiler since being drafted 13th overall in 2001.

Former Oilers defenceman Ladislav Smid has also been named to the 2014 Czech team.
Jaromir Jagr will play in his fifth Olympics, leading the Czech hockey team in Sochi next month.
The 41-year-old right winger earned 13 goals and 21 assists in 43 games this season with the New Jersey Devils.
The 25-man Czech team was announced by coach Alois Hadamczik on Monday in Prague.
Montreal forward Tomas Plekanec was named the team captain, and 42-year-old ex-NHLer Petr Nedved also nailed down a roster spot. Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec is also on the team.
Calgary veteran Jiri Hudler, who has 33 points this year with the Flames, and Phoenix left-wing Radim Vrbata were left off the roster.
