EDMONTON – Travellers were dealing with delays and cancellations at several major airports across Canada and the United States Monday, including at the Edmonton International Airport (EIA), as extreme winter weather hit areas across the two countries.
A number of flights were delayed or cancelled at the EIA on Monday.
Meanwhlie, some travellers flying into Edmonton Sunday evening had to deal with extra long wait times.
An EIA spokesperson tells Global News that the bad weather is to blame. She says that it’s causing many flights to come in later than scheduled, which effects other flights. Even though each airline has its own baggage handlers, some airlines have apparently been having staffing problems.

Another issue that arises from unexpectedly late flights is a taxi shortage, since many airport taxis leave after a certain time because no flights are supposed to be coming in.
So for the past three nights, the airport has been allowing all the taxi companies in the city do airport pick-ups.
