COLDSTREAM – Conservation officers have killed one cougar in the north Okanagan and are hunting for two others.

A healthy, female cougar was trapped Thursday night near Coldstream after the Conservation Officer Service received complaints since Boxing Day of the big cat chasing people’s pets.

C-O Josh Lockwood says the cougar was put down because it had become habituated to domestic animals. He adds relocating the animal to a deep forested area would be very difficult because of snow covered back roads.

And a complaint was received Friday morning of a cougar having killed an alpaca in the Sunnybrae Point area of Tappen.

Also Friday morning, a cougar was reported to have chased horses through a fence in the Ashton Creek area east of Enderby.

Lockwood says they’ll try to track down both of those cats.
