MONTREAL, Que. – A fire at Le Marquis motel in east-end Montreal forced about 50 guests onto the street Sunday morning. The case has been transferred to the police arson unit.
The blaze started in a room at the 81-room, two-storey motel on Sherbrooke St. E. near Langelier Blvd. about 5 a.m., according to Montreal police Constable Daniel Lacoursière.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to douse the flames, but they were unable to determine the cause of the fire. That is why police investigators will be looking into the case.
The guests who had been staying in the room where the fire originated did not stick around, so investigators could not question them, Lacoursière added.
