CALGARY – A Canadian website is warning busy last minute shoppers about the dangers of overspending during the holidays.

Whether you’re buying Christmas presents or splurging on a new outfit for New Year’s Eve, it’s definitely a time of year when credit cards are frequently maxed out.

With Canadian household debt already at record levels and still on the rise, Personal Bankruptcy Canada is reminding people how important it is to keep holiday spending in check.

Three tips to avoid holiday debt:

  1. Make a list, set your budget and stick to it.
  2. Take advantage of sales, coupons and comparison shopping.
  3. Be transparent with your partner about your spending.
