A man turned himself in to authorities in connection with a fatal hit and run north of Montreal, Quebec provincial police said Friday.
The development comes after the Sûreté du Québec’s major crimes unit was seeking witnesses to the collision in Laval that occurred Thursday morning.
First responders were called at 5:15 a.m. to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Highway 15 North, at the Gédéon-Ouimet bridge.
In a press release, the SQ said it appears a driver stopped their car in the right lane after getting a flat tire.
Police believe the driver was hit by a white pickup truck, as he exited his vehicle to fix the flat tire. The 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of a white Ford F-150 did not remain after the collision. They issued photos of the car, asking the public for help in identifying the driver.
On Friday, police spokesperson Ève Brochu-Joubert said the driver of the truck, a man is 40s, turned himself in at a local station.
He was arrested by officers on site and was expected to appear in court later in the day on Friday.
