Winnipeg police say a serious assault they were investigating Thursday morning has now been deemed a homicide.

Officers were called to the scene, at the corner of Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street, around 3:20 a.m., where they found a man with serious injuries.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but has since died, police said.

The homicide unit continues to look into the incident. Police said notifications to the victim’s family are pending.
