Snowy morning commute expected Friday morning

Tomorrow is expected to be an ugly morning commute for many parts of the province.

Snow is expected to start falling tonight on the South Coast and continue into tomorrow afternoon before tapering off.

Up to 10 cm is expected overnight, tonight.

City works crews are gearing up and drivers are being advised to brace for a bad commute.

Mountains of salt and a fleet of 25 plows are ready to go, according to Murray Wightman, Engineering Operations Manager at the City of Vancouver.

Tire shops are also busy, with last minute drivers rushing to prepare their cars for the weather.

“Usually, most people wait until the snow hits the ground, and the phones start ringing and people start coming in,” says Kal Tire Manager Tarl Sochan.

As of 9:45 p.m. Thursday, snow was falling on most of Vancouver Island including Duncan, Nanaimo, Campbell River and Courtenay.

Snow was also being reported in North Vancouver and downtown.
