SYDNEY, N.S. – Prime Minister Stephen Harper is expected to visit Cape Breton on Friday according to a Conservative member of the Nova Scotia legislature.
Cecil Clarke, who has announced that he intends to run as a candidate in the next federal election, says he has been talking to Harper about the dredging of Sydney harbour.
Clarke says he expects "when the time comes" the prime minister will have something to say about the project and the port.
The Sydney Marine Group estimates the dredging of the harbour will cost $38 million.
The province has committed to providing 40 per cent of the projected cost and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality has agreed to contribute $2 million.
Marine group CEO Jim Wooder says he has no knowledge of any pending funding announcement.
