Coalhurst crash injures young boy and mother

LETHBRIDGE- Two vans collided Tuesday afternoon at an intersection on Highway 3 at Coalhurst  in southern Alberta, injuring two people including a 5-year-old boy.

RCMP say a woman driving her 4-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son in a van turned onto the highway and was struck by another vehicle on Highway 3. The boy, who was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

All three people in the van were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A woman and her two-year-old daughter were also taken to hospital for observation.

Vehicles in the area were rerouted for several hours after the crash.

Coalhurst residents have pushing for an overpass; the intersection has been the scene of several serious crashes over the years.
