Toronto police say a 43-year-old man who called 911 has been taken into custody after a woman was found dead in the city’s east end early Thursday.
Duty Insp. Jeff Bangild told reporters they were called to a home on Scarborough Golf Club Road at around 4 a.m. “by a man in his 40s who had stated he had caused harm to another individual, a resident of this building.”
“Paramedics, fire, and Toronto police arrived on scene and located the individual outside of the unit, who identified himself as the caller,” Bangild said.
A woman was found inside the unit and was pronounced dead at the scene, Bangild said.
Bangild said the man who called police was taken into custody in connection with the homicide.
No charges have been laid yet as the investigation is still early, he said.
The woman’s identity was not released as her family is still being notified, Bangild said. He would not reveal what injuries the woman sustained.
“It’s an isolated incident in the townhouse behind us. We don’t know what weapons, if any, was used but ultimately the force that was inflicted upon her was enough to cause her death,” Bangild said.
The exact relationship between the victim and the accused is unknown.
“We can confirm that the victim did reside here. This appears to be her apartment,” Bangild told reporters.
