EDMONTON – Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas Saturday morning.
A warm front will be moving into Alberta Saturday afternoon, bringing with it a heavy band of freezing rain. Much of central Alberta — stretching from Peace River to Lloydminster — is under the warning.
The freezing rain is expected to to start in western Alberta Saturday afternoon and spread east into Edmonton by Saturday evening.
Environment Canada says up to five millimetres of freezing rain is expected, which will make for slippery road conditions.

The latest weather warning come after 15 centimetres of snow fell in and around Edmonton this week.
And with temperatures expected to reach a daytime high of 1°C by Monday, roofing experts are urging home owners to clear the snow off their roofs.
“We’ve had a lot of snow and now it’s getting warm,” said Ken McCormack with Arrow Roofing. “What happens is it melts and then it hits the cool eaves and ice starts freezing and backing up. And if it gets past your underlay, then it’s penetrating your roof and you can have water coming down your walls or into your house.
“If you start seeing icicles hanging over your eavestroughs that means you probably have an ice stem started already.”

The heavy snowfall has resulted in a seasonal parking ban, which came into effect at 7:00 a.m. Saturday. Any vehicles parked on signed bus routes run the risk of being ticketed and towed.
