A man is in critical condition after a stabbing in Brampton on Tuesday afternoon.
Peel Regional Police said emergency crews were called to the Main Street South and Queen Street area at 1:27 p.m.
Richard Chin, public relations officer with Peel police, said the victim made his way to a retail store in the area after being stabbed. The employees of that establishment called 9-1-1 after noticing he was bleeding.
Emergency services transported the man to a trauma centre.
Police confirmed the victim was in life-threatening condition.
“The victim was transported by EMS to a trauma center where he is in life-threatening condition, and we are still waiting to hear the results of surgery,” Chin said.
Later on Tuesday evening, police said his condition had been upgraded to stable.
There was a large police presence in the area following the stabbing, and much of the area is still cordoned off while an investigation takes place.
Police said they have reason to believe some of the incident happened around Wellington Street West.
“We have very limited information at this time in terms of the circumstances around what has happened,” Chin said.
He also said the weapon has not yet been recovered.
No suspect information is available.
