“It’s sad they didn’t call the ambulance right away when it happened,” said Gazal Cheema, who lives in the area where the victim was eventually located. “Just you know, [to] try to dump the body here was sad.”

Police said the pedestrian was hit around 1:40 a.m. Saturday in the roadway north on University Drive and 104 Avenue – where witnesses saw a red Ford Mustang strike the man before taking off.

The victim’s body was discovered 1.6 kilometres away at 109 Avenue and 132 Street.

Cheema’s surveillance cameras captured a red Ford Mustang driving by shortly after 1:40 a.m. Saturday before stopping, and she has provided the footage to RCMP.

“There was a red Mustang who passed from here and stopped around the corner,” Cheema said in an interview Saturday. “We could only see the car passing from here and stopping up here with the indicator, right indicator on and then just that’s it.”

Surrey RCMP would not confirm whether the victim was dragged eight blocks before becoming dislodged from the suspect vehicle.

“How the guy ended up here I don’t know,” neighbour Stan VanTine said Saturday. “It was pretty sad. If the guy was on the car, then the driver should be really prosecuted heavily.”

RCMP said the suspect vehicle was quickly located and its three occupants taken into custody.

One resident of 132 Street saw a red Ford Mustang behind police tape at King George Boulevard and 132 Street Saturday morning while another observed a tarped vehicle at the same location.

Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out in the fatal collision, and no charges had been laid as of Sunday morning.

Collision investigators are asking for any potential witnesses to come forward if they were travelling northbound on University Drive, westbound on 108 Avenue and northbound on 132 Street between 1:40 a.m. and 1:50 a.m. Saturday.
