Investigators said life-saving measures were performed on an “unresponsive infant” when crews arrived. The infant was taken to hospital where the baby was pronounced dead.

“We’re not releasing further details of the infant or the person at this time as you can understand it’s a very sensitive investigation,” Const. Lisa Moskaluk told Global News. “And it’s also a very sad thing to happen so early in the year.”

Moskaluk also noted this is York Region’s first homicide of 2024 and it involves the death of an infant.

The infant’s cause of death was also not released.

Police said there are no other outstanding suspects.
