No injuries reported after ‘brazen daytime shooting’ in Coquitlam

It has been a busy 12-hours for police in a number of Metro Vancouver communities, responding to a string of shootings and other violent incidents. Emily Lazatin reports – Jan 5, 2024

Police are urging people to avoid an area of central Coquitlam as they respond to a shooting on Thursday.

RCMP said the incident happened in the area of Johnson Street and Glen Drive just before 3 p.m.

Mounties said they received reports that “multiple individuals” had shot at a vehicle and were pointing a gun.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, and police said they had located two suspects.

B.C. Emergency Health Services said no patients were transported to hospital.

“We are extremely lucky that no one was injured during this brazen day-time shooting in a very populated area,” Coquitlam RCMP Officer in Charge, Supt. Keith Bramhill, said in a media release.

“As we are in the initial stages of the investigation, we are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or saw a man pointing a firearm in the area of Johnson Street and Glen Drive to contact police.”

Police are also looking for any video shot in the area between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Police asked people to avoid Glen Drive between Lansdowne Drive and Pinetree Way, and Johnson Street between Guildford Way and Conley Crescent.

Witnesses reported more than a dozen police vehicles responding, along with an RCMP helicopter.
