HALIFAX – Groups that represent Nova Scotia’s retail and restaurant industry are calling for changes to the government’s proposed February holiday.

They say the statutory holiday, set to come into effect in 2015, will cost them.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Luc Erjavec of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association, says giving employees an extra paid day off could cost his members more than two-million dollars a year.

He says only those workers who are scheduled to work on the holiday should be compensated.

But Labour Minister Kelly Regan says the holiday is going ahead as planned.

She says businesses are being given more than a year to prepare.
