MONTREAL – Voters in Outremont and Viau are heading to the polls in two provincial by-elections Monday.

Both on-island ridings are considered Liberal strongholds.

Quebec Liberal leader Philippe Couillard is running uncontested in Outremont by both the Parti Québécois and Coalition Avenir Québec.

He is, however, facing off against Québec solidaire and Option nationale candidates in his bid for a seat in the National Assembly.

Seven political parties are running in the Outremont by-election.

The Liberals are also presenting their candidate in Viau, David Heurtel, a former president of the Régie des installations olympiques.

He is running against PQ candidate Tania Longpré.

She was most recently forced to step down after making comments on Facebook that the word “Jewish” be removed from the title of the Jewish General Hospital and that circumcision be banned.
