Light snow is falling across the South Coast this morning, making for slippery road conditions on the Monday commute.

Global BC meteorologist Mark Madryga says the weather system is quite weak, but a centimeter or two is possible in Metro Vancouver today , with another centimeter or two tonight through tomorrow.

Doppler Radar shows the snow is accumulating in the Fraser Valley, where two to four centimeters will fall.

Madryga says milder air will move in on Wednesday with a mix of rain and snow showers, and by Thursday and Friday rain will fall, and temperatures will remain above freezing day and night.

This weekend’s cold snap saw many record lows broken across the province.

West Vancouver saw a low of -7.9 degrees, breaking the old record of 4.8 degrees. And YVR dropped to minus 10.0 on Saturday morning. It was not a record, however, as it was -12 degrees on that date in 1980.

Meanwhile, the deep freeze was wreaking havoc across the province.

Officials across the province are warning homeowners to use caution when dealing with frozen pipes after an incident in the north Okanagan, where a fire was sparked by a blow-torch being used to warm a home’s pipes.

And it is suspected a propane heater started a fire that gutted a van in East Vancouver last night.
