The Special Investigations Unit says it is investigating after a vehicle fleeing OPP officers on Highway 401 in Toronto struck two pedestrians on city roads.
The SIU said at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, two Ontario Provincial Police officers had their emergency lights on while travelling southbound on Keele Street en route to a call.
A driver in an SUV was in front of the police vehicles and “appeared to flee” hitting the driver of another car travelling eastbound on the Highway 401 ramp, the SIU said.
The SUV driver then struck two pedestrians crossing Keele Street near Falstaff Avenue, just south of the highway, the SIU said.
A 24-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The SIU is an independent agency that investigates the conduct of officers when there has been serious injury involved. The SIU has invoked its mandate and is investigating the incident with OPP officers.
Roads in the area have since reopened on Wednesday morning.
