A convicted sex offender, who made international headlines when he was caught, is expected to appear before a judge in Richmond today for a sentencing hearing.

The court had to be evacuated due to a threatening phone call, but the case is now being heard from the RCMP command centre.

Christopher Neil, known as ‘swirl face’, spent five years in jail in Thailand after being found guilty of molesting young boys. Police were able to track him down after unscrambling his face in a photo that was posted to the Internet.

Neil returned to Canada last year and was placed under a peace bond since he was considered a high risk to re-offend. He was not meant to have any devices capable of accessing the Internet, but was found to be in possession of a laptop in August.

He pleaded guilty to breaching his conditions.
