RCMP conduct traffic enforcement campaign

The South Okanagan Traffic Services and the Kelowna and Keremeos detachments of the Integrated Road Safety Units (IRSU) recently conducted a traffic enforcement campaign.

RCMP used an Automatic License Recognition Program to search a database and identified 241 offending vehicles in two days.

Below are some of the charges:

– 13 charges for drivers without insurance

– 16 charges for drivers without a valid license

– 1 charge for driving while prohibited

– 8 driving prohibitions issued as per instruction by the Motor Vehicle Branch

– 2 vehicles were impounded

– 1 recovery of a stolen validation tag

– 33 other Motor Vehicle Act charges for various offences

The South Okanagan Traffic Services and the Keremeos IRSU also conducted operation “Click it or Ticket” in Penticton at the end of October.

The purpose of the campaign is to promote awareness of wearing a seatbelt.

Police issued the following charges:

– 39 tickets for “Failing to Wear Seatbelt”

– 11 tickets for “Use of an Electronic Device while Driving”

– 34 tickets for moving violations

– 6 tickets for drivers license violations
