Man asking for money struck in central Edmonton intersection

Emergency crews closed the intersection of 109 Street and 111 Avenue in central Edmonton on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023. Global News

Edmonton police said the intersection of 109th Street and 111th Avenue was closed at around noon Thursday after a pedestrian was hit during a collision. The intersection was reopened to traffic by 3:15 p.m.

Police said emergency workers responded at 11 a.m. to a two-vehicle collision “that also struck a pedestrian who was panhandling at the intersection” on the median.

The 50-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries that “appear to be minor,” police said.

Neither one of the drivers was injured.

Speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
