Jones remains undefeated at curling trials

WINNIPEG – Jennifer Jones remains undefeated at the Roar of the Rings Olympic curling trials after a thrilling 9-7 win over Sherry Middaugh in Monday’s morning draw.

Jones scored two in the 10th end to tie the game, then scored another pair in an extra end to improve to 2-0 at the tournament.

Jones’s Winnipeg rink is tied atop the women’s standings with Val Sweeting of Vegreville, Alta. Sweeting defeated Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton 8-6.

Lawton fell to 0-2, while Middaugh’s rink from Coldwater, Ont., dropped to 1-1.

In other scores from the morning draw, Winnipeg’s Chelsea Carey beat Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin 8-5 and Ottawa’s Rachel Homan downed Renee Sonnenberg of Grande Prairie, Alta., 8-2.

Carey, Homan and Sonnenberg are at 1-1 while Nedohin falls to 0-2.
