HURRAY!!! IT’S WALK AND BARBEQUE TIME!!! (WALK FOR DOG GUIDES)

MARTENSVILLE & DISTRICT LIONS CLUB will be hosting our 9th Annual Lions Foundation of Canada Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides.  This year the Saskatoon Downtown Lions Club will be joining us on our walk.  REGISTRATION @1:00pm, WALK @2:00pm at the Lions Heritage Centre, 415 – 6th Avenue South in Martensville.

We are now the “top fundraiser on the prairies” thanks to your continued support with either a cash donation, beautiful basket for a door prize or a suitable product for a raffle prize.  Our club is very excited to host this event to raise funds to help support the training of life-changing dogs for Canadians that need them.  The Dog Guides are trained to assist Canadians with medical or physical disabilities and are provided to them at no cost.  The dogs are trained in seven different disciplines: Hearing, Vision Impairment, Autism Assistance, Seizure Response, Diabetic alert, Service dogs for physical/medical disabilities and Facility Support dogs that are for professional agencies that assist individuals in traumatic situations.  The cost for training a Dog Guide is approximately $35,000.

We have 2 families in Martensville waiting for dog guides and hopefully it happens soon, but Covid restrictions really slowed things down.  I am very happy to say that Ivan (Autism assistance guide dog) and Olivia are doing very well and have adjusted to going to a new school together (now have moved to Saskatoon and are doing well in their new surroundings).  This pairing has made Olivia’s life and her family’s life much easier and more satisfying for all.  During the next 8 weeks, up until May 28th, there will be about 300 hybrid (live or virtual) fundraising walks taking place across Canada.  Pledge forms are available from local Veterinarian offices or pet services in your area.  They are also available from your Martensville and District Lions Club members or Saskatoon Downtown Lions Club members or by calling Lion Doug at 306-491-8914.  You can donate online by going to http://www.walkfordogguides.com and select Martensville as your walk and register as a walker of donate to a designated walker or team (Saskatoon Downtown Lions Club).

EXCITING NEWS!!  The Lions Dog Guide training facility is fundraising to build a better and larger training center as they have outgrown the present one that they have been in for 40 years and should start construction soon.  After our LIONS CLUB’S 40th ANNIVERSARY project was completed beside the spray park (a gazebo to help with all the elements), we started a fundraiser for a MAJOR PLAYGROUND CHANGE which will be constructed this summer.  Come check it out for a family gathering.
