Currie’s Light the Night

Light the Night is a series of unique, never-before-seen, light-based art installations that will illuminate the winter nights in Calgary.

Taking place in the heart of the community of Currie, Light the Night is best experienced after sunset.

Seven distinct installations will illuminate winding pathways with more than 30 individual light pieces including lanterns, projections and suspended artworks. This rich storytelling experience celebrates the magic of winter, Currie’s military roots and connection with the Indigenous peoples.

Light the Night is created by an artistic collaboration between two of Alberta’s highly acclaimed artists, Dylan Toymaker and Adrian Stimson.

• • Dylan Toymaker is a light design and installation artist currently residing in Edmonton, Alberta. Previously, he has created and curated art for the Flying Canoë Volant festival, and designed and built lantern installations for a variety of Alberta festivals, including the Edmonton Folk Music Festival and the Jasper Dark Sky Festival.
• • Adrian Stimson is an interdisciplinary artist and member of the Siksika (Blackfoot) Nation in Southern Alberta. He participated in the Canadian Forces Artists Program, which sent him to Afghanistan in 2010 and was awarded the Governor General Award for Visual and Media Arts in 2018. Stimson’s work has been exhibited internationally including the British Museum and the Burning Man Festival.
