Working with smaller pieces of soapstone is more like fun play. Soapstone is easy to shape or carve with simple hand tools, and a few simple instructions. You could make therapy hot or cold stones, worry stones, ice cubes, pet rocks or let the imagination make whatever it turns into. All is good when we are having fun. The powder is soft to feel and the dust can be contained by using a little care. The stone can be worked by almost anyone, so experience is not necessary. The learner will start out with stone, a file set, sandpaper, and a saw. This can and will make an interesting and relaxing hobby, and you will enjoy making pieces that will last for generations to come. For the experienced carver larger pieces of stone can be provided on request at five dollars a pound. If you have an idea or pattern that’s good but not necessary. You can make a pattern here, or a free hand sculpture your choice.
