We are very excited to bring events back to Downtown Peterborough! We’re launching the, “PetValu Fast & Furriest” 5k/10k & 1k Run/Walk in support of LAWS (Lakefield Animal Welfare Society). Saturday June 25th, 9:30am Del Crary Park.

This is the first run/walk in 2 years. We’ve missed out on staple events like the St. Patrick’s Day 5k, YMCA Run, Run for Mental Health & Butterfly run for years and couldn’t be more thrilled to have events like this back in our downtown core.

The event will start and finish at Del Crary Park and be a 5k loop of Little Lake that participants can do once (5k) or twice (10k) It’s a flat, fast, scenic route showing off Del Crary Park, Beavermead Park, our new Canoe Museum and Little Lake. There will be a kids 1k fun run that stays within the park so something for the whole family.
We wanted to raise money for LAWS since the pet population has almost doubled during the pandemic they are busier than ever. The Lakefield Animal Welfare Society, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abandoned, and injured animals in our community and finding adoptive homes for them. They are a “no-kill” shelter and work very hard at finding homes for even the most difficult to place animals. They do not believe that euthanasia is an acceptable method of population control but that spay and neuter is the only humane way to combat the problem. LAWS is run strictly on donations, memberships and adoption fees. We do not benefit from any outside government or private sector funding.

PetValu has stepped up as the Title Sponsor of the event. They are passionate about pet care and responsible ownership and see this as an opportunity to help the community. Both Craig and Sandy are also avid runners.
A number of local veterinary clinics are also sponsoring the event. Peterborough Vet Services and Brealey Drive Animal Clinic and we anticipate more to come.
