TrudeauMania, The Musical is a fast and furious bio-musical about the storied life of Pierre Trudeau, Canada’s 15th Prime Minister and father of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. We follow Pierre Trudeau from his radical separatist youth to his narrow victory at the 1968 Liberal Party Leadership Convention, from his weekend with Barbra Streisand in her New York apartment to meeting John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the Parliament Buildings. From the October Crisis in Quebec to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. From his meetings with US President Reagan, Britain’s Margaret Thatcher and Soviet leader Gorbachev to try to bring about peace and nuclear disarmament, to his last days in Montreal. This musical is being presented at the Fringe Mainstage in a shortened, 75-minute version and is being performed as a reading & singing of the script, with live music but without choreography, in order to ensure COVID safety for the audience and actors. Directed by French-Canadian Robbie Hebert, BPA, with a live 4-piece band headed by Jessie-nominated Vancouver music director, composer and pianist Peter Abando and featuring Stanley Tsang (Turpentinemusic.com) on lead guitar, Angus Lam on electric bass and double bass, and Chase the Bear drummer Connor Brooks (drums and backup vocals on the Hotel Mira song “This Could Be It For Me” with Juno and Grammy-winning producer Eric Ratz: Arkells, Billy Talent, Big Wreck). The show features 25 original songs in a wide range of genres including hip-hop, country rock, soul, reggae, swing, pop rock, Latin jazz and even a waltz, performed by a diverse cast of 8 talented singer-actors.
