Imagine what it is like to be an air traffic controller, discover how a jet engine works, take to the skies towards a better future! The Alberta Aviation Museum invites families and women of all ages to their 7th Annual Celebration of Women of Aviation Worldwide Week (WOAW). Helping to mark a global movement for gender representation in aviation, this celebration is set to take flight March 7th from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Museum’s historic WWII Hangar at Blatchford Field (11410 Kingsway). Elevate Aviation has partnered with the museum to host an all-day career fair – featuring real-life pilots, air traffic controllers, and aircraft maintenance engineers. If you are curious to explore the aviation industry, there will be experts to guide you along the way. There is something for everyone. Challenge yourself through our interactive social media scavenger hunt. Help recreate Katherine Stinson’s first air mail delivery in Western Canada. Witness our new exhibit on the evolution of civilian air worker’s rights. Flight simulators for the adventurers, fun photo dress-up booths for families, and a Guinness World Record attempt for the worldwide Pink Paper Plane Challenge: the museum is truly a place Where Women’s History Takes Flight! Saturday’s celebration is part of Women Of Aviation Worldwide Week (WOAW); a global aviation awareness week for girls of all ages to mark the anniversary of the world’s first female pilot licence (March 8, 1910). The week is a call to address gender imbalance in the air and space industry. Participation is included in the price of museum admission: $15/adults, $12/students/seniors, $9.50/children 6-12. Children 6 and under are free. Visit http://www.albertaaviationmuseum.com for more information.
