Blythe Scott launches her latest exhibition “Paint the Town Red!” opening on Saturday, September 21st, from 1 – 4pm. This collection of new works celebrates and explores her connection to her home country of Scotland. Born in Glasgow in 1969, Blythe is celebrating her milestone birthday with an explosively colourful and quirky interpretation of Scotland’s cities, landscapes, and coastal villages.  Whether depicting castles, harbours, cities, or patchwork farms, Paint the Town Red! speaks to the joy and playfulness of the Scottish spirit. In developing this collection, the colour red emerged as a strong motif seeming to exuberantly convey both her affection for her home country and the excitement she felt while creating the pieces. A vibrant palette, layered mixed media, and Blythe’s signature use of metal leaf are all in abundance in these pieces which are played out on, at times, a larger scale than usual. Blythe’s love affair with the square format continues, including large diptychs of side by side squares, creating panoramic views of her subject matter. This opening coincides with the Fall Gallery Walk and Blythe will be the artist in residence for West End Gallery during her opening, 1 – 4pm on Saturday, September 21st. Exhibition continues through October 3rd, 2019. All artwork is subject to pre-sale.
