Hold High the Torch is a student-led organization that strives to foster a culture of remembrance in our communities and a personal appreciation of our cherished freedoms in today’s youth. We work to connect youth with veterans, honour the fallen, and support the troops who serve our nation today. Our organization creates special opportunities for the accounts of veterans to be shared with today’s youth, as we believe it is very important that students understand why they have the opportunities and freedoms that they cherish. We are hosting an event to honour our veterans, active-duty military personnel and their spouses/caretakers by treating them to a special complimentary Surrey/Langley Veterans Appreciation Luncheon. In partnership with United Way of the Lower Mainland, Cloverdale Rodeo Youth Initiative Foundation, and Canada Service Corps (Taking It Global), it is a grateful opportunity for Surrey/Langley residents to come show our appreciation for those who served our nation and fought for our freedoms. It is being held at École Salish Secondary (7278 184 St, Surrey, BC V4N 5V2) on Saturday May 11, 2019 and between 11:00am – 2:00pm. There will be various activities, prizes, and live entertainment provided by Pat Chessell. Our keynote speaker will be The Honourable Senator Yonah Martin, Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition in the Senate. Other dignitaries in attendance include Member of Parliament John Aldag, MLA Marvin Hunt, Councillor Laurie Guerra and Trustee Laurie Larsen. Members of the public are also welcome to attend via donation.
